A new feature in Chrome will convert images in PDFs to text

MADRID (Portlatic/EP).- Google has introduced some innovations to improve the web experience for users with vision problems and dyslexia, such as the function that will allow PDF images to be converted into text.

The reading mode that Google announced in March for Chrome will not only be available for this browser on computers with ChromeOS, but also Chrome on all computers, as the company confirmed this Thursday.

This mode will allow you to customize the reading view so that students with dyslexia find the most accessible text. Specifically, it will allow you to modify the typography, the background color and the spacing of the lines and the margins.

Chrome for ChromeOS will also have a new feature, extending the image descriptor, to convert images in pdfs to text.

“This means that when a screen reader user encounters a pdf that does not have alt text, the screen reader will be able to convert the image to text and read it aloud,” the company explains.

This accessibility feature responds to the fact that there are more than 360 billion PDF files that are inaccessible to people who are blind or have low vision who rely on screen readers, as noted Google in a press release.
