The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, summoned the union leaders of the CGT and the social movements at the headquarters of the Treasury, in order to discuss a possible agreement on prices and wages for 90 days. The official’s initiative seeks to give some stability to the Argentine economy, after the skyrocketing of the blue dollar, which was close to 500 pesos.
From the meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Economy, The co-heads of the CGT Héctor Daer (Health) and Carlos Acuña (service stations) and the leaders Andrés Rodríguez (UPCN), Gerardo Martínez (UOCRA), Jorge Sola (Insurance), José Luis Lingeri (Sanitation Works), and Armando Cavalieri (Commerce), while for the Evita Movement were Emilio Pérsico and Fernando Navarro and for Barrios de Pie, Daniel Menéndez (all three are government officials).
The unions saw Massa “ready to give battle”
The meeting was scheduled to give a sign of calm, in the midst of the political internships prior to the elections and the constant remarking of prices demanded by the various sectors. In this line, the trade unionists mentioned that they saw Massa “ready to give battle” and they blamed “the responsibility of the speculators” in the exchange crisis. “Four living handle the dollar,” questioned the leader of the Evita Movement, Emilio Pérsico.
The response of the leader of the Renovation Front focused on the constant increase in prices. In this sense, he said that “It is inexplicable that today there are attempts to remark prices on the basis of what was the increase in the blue dollar last week because all those who import do so with the official dollar in the single free exchange market”. And he considered that “it is not a justified increase in the macroeconomy but justified in some fanned”.
“We are going to be guarantors and controllers and We ask you to help us be guarantors and controllers that there is supply and compliance with price agreements,” said Massa, in a position similar to the one he maintained when he launched the Fair Prices program and called on Truckers to ratify the non-increase in prices in supermarkets and wholesale distributors.
In another of the passages of the talk, the head of the Palacio de Hacienda recalled the work of all sectors “so that fewer workers pay Income Tax in their overtime and travel expenses” and anticipated that “within a very few hours we will have the opportunity for even fewer workers to pay Income Tax because the rise in the floor of the non-taxable minimum is corrected again from May to 503 thousand pesos”.
Massa once again leans on the unions to achieve price stability.
