HOUSTON.-A teenager was killed and three other youths were injured in a shooting in southwest Houston. early Sunday morning, according to police.
An altercation in front of a business led to gunshots just after 1 a.m. on West Fuqua Street, according to Houston Deputy Police Chief Wyatt Martin.
“We don’t have many details yet about the exact motive for the shooting. It appeared that two groups of individuals were shooting at each other,” Martin said at a news conference at the scene.
The deceased was a 17-year-old girl who was nearing her 18th birthday, Martin said.
The other three victims with non-life-threatening injuries were an 18-year-old woman and two men, ages 18 and 20. The woman was taken to an area hospital by firefighters and the men arrived at hospitals in private vehicles, Martin added.
There were at least two shooters, according to casings found at the scene, he said.
“It was a very chaotic scene,” said Martin, who urged witnesses to testify. “We hope someone there saw something, maybe they have proof. It seems that there are always people with their cell phones on, recording.
Multiple victims in two early-morning shootings in Missouri
Police in Missouri were investigating two mass shootings in the same area of Kansas City on Sunday morning, though the number of people killed or injured was not immediately clear, according to a news report.
Kansas City police responded to reports of gunshots on Prospect Avenue around 3 a.m. and again at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to KSHB-TV.
One of the shootings had several fatalities, the television station added.
The number of victims of each incident was not initially made public, but police told KSHB that some victims with gunshot wounds made it to a hospital by their own means.
There was no immediate information on arrests, according to KSHB.
