Capybaras usually generate controversy every time news related to them emerges. They are wild animals, but contrary to popular belief, they are harmless animals and some have already become social media stars. For example, a caretaker named them “Carpinchurros” and showed that they do not flinch in front of the cameras.

Paula Reynoso is a native of Morón, but she traveled to her weekend home in Villa Paranacito, Entre Ríos, to isolate herself during the mandatory quarantine and since then she decided to settle there. The young woman is an animal lover and since she was a girl she rescues birds or other small species and cares for them until they recover. This is how “Churro” came into her life.

The young woman from Buenos Aires lives on island number 9 of Villa Paranacito, facing the river. Her property is the ideal habitat for rodents, so she did not hesitate to receive the animal. “My friend called me to tell me that she had found a capybara near her house, but she couldn’t take care of it,” she recalled in dialogue with TN. And she added: “It was all very new, I knew they are herbivores, but the experience was totally different.”

“Churro” was two or three months old when he was rescued. “They kill the mothers, some of them pregnant, and the young are left alone,” explained Paula, who related that the first six months, the animal slept in her room because she was terrified of not finding it in the morning.

Once, he even feared the worst scenario: “He was walking through the surrounding land and came back with an ax blow to the back of the head,” he said. Since there is only one veterinarian in Villa Paranacito, she had to cure him by herself. Now, “Churro” wanders the area alone during the day and returns at bedtime. “I want them to be free, I don’t force them to do anything,” said the young woman.

Without realizing the magnitude of her action, Paula began to become relevant: “Everyone knows me for my capybaras. If it weren’t for my care, they would be in someone else’s belly, ”she said. The neighbors contacted her again to rescue more pups and she now has four. The second is seven months old; the last two, three months. They are all male and are called “Churro”: “I’m not creative with names, I know,” she joked.

At first, he was afraid that he would not be able to take care of them, but he learned to give them the necessary care. When he rescued them, they ate grass and now their diet also includes bananas, apples, pears, lettuce and tomatoes.

friendly and obedient
“I love them. They are loving, friendly, obedient, ”she remarked. In addition to the capybaras, Paula has six dogs, two cats and a rabbit. She also rescued a nutria (a beaver-like rodent otter).

According to his story, many people come to see the “Churros” and their presence on social networks increased. For example, on one occasion, while she was caressing one of the animals, her brother decided to capture the tender moment and share it on the platforms. Seeing that the video went viral, she recommended Paula to create a TikTok account (@carpinchurros), in which she currently shares content for almost 360,000 followers. They also became famous on Instagram.

However, many criticize her for posting videos of the capybaras inside her home and for her treatment of them. “I just leave the door open and they do what they want; I do not force them to enter, ”she defended.

Although he would like to, he cannot rescue more rodents, especially adults, because the males are territorial with their kind. Likewise, Paula stressed that they get along perfectly well with the dogs and other animals in her home. Her future project is to raise awareness in the community to prevent the hunting of these animals and that the “Carpinchurros” can live in freedom.
