Frankfurt/Mulheim.
Trio is said to have caused an accident with serious injuries and fled. The police in Mülheim caught the suspected driver smoking weed.

Three men from Mülheim are currently before the 22nd major criminal chamber of the Frankfurt Regional Court. They are said to have caused an accident in the Hessian metropolis while fleeing the police with a high-powered sports car and then fled without taking care of another driver who was seriously injured. The 28-year-old from Mülheim is charged with attempted murder, his two 24-year-old passengers with aiding and abetting. Other allegations include dangerous bodily harm, prohibited participation in a motor vehicle race, endangering road traffic, leaving the scene of an accident without permission, theft and forgery of documents.

According to the public prosecutor, the trio is said to have stolen a license plate in Neuss in the early hours of July 19, 2021 and attached it to a Mercedes AMG C 63 S. The next day, around 9:15 p.m. in downtown Frankfurt, they were noticed by a civil patrol because of their driving – the 28-year-old does not have a driver’s license. When the officials want to stop the sports car, the driver is said to have initially pretended that he wanted to park, then he accelerated. Because of the high speed, the civil patrol had to break off the pursuit. On the further escape, the 28-year-old is said to have driven his almost two-ton vehicle at a red traffic light at around 70 kilometers per hour at an intersection in Frankfurt’s Westend and crashed into the Smart of a then 68-year-old. The victim then had to be hospitalized for several days.

Smart driver would have needed urgent medical attention

“Gone, gone, gone,” the accused is said to have called out to his passengers. The trio then fled the scene of the accident on foot. They are said to have noticed that the Smart driver urgently needed medical help and could have died without it, but accepted it.

The police caught the 28-year-old more than a year after the accident in his hometown. He was caught smoking weed with five other men at the Kahlenberg sports facility with other men. When they checked his personal details, the officials quickly found that there were several arrest warrants against him, including one issued by the Frankfurt District Court for attempted murder.

The accused Mülheimer (28) is already in prison

The judiciary did not have to hurry for the process: while the two passengers are still at large, the 28-year-old is already in prison. After his arrest at Kahlenberg, he was initially taken into custody. He is now serving an open prison sentence after being convicted by the district court in Mülheim for another offence. Details were not initially known.

It is still unclear what the trio actually wanted in Frankfurt on the day of the accident and what they say about the allegations. The three men have remained silent during the investigation and also in the ongoing process. The jury has scheduled a total of seven main hearing dates. A verdict could come in mid-March.
