If you are concerned about your environmental footprint, you surely know that ecology and high-tech often do not go well together and favor refurbished. However, some major brands are thinking about how to reduce their impact on the environment and innovative solutions are emerging, as was the case for Acer with this “eco-responsible” laptop. At the moment, the Acer Aspire Vero National Geographic edition is available at 599.99 euros instead of 899.99 at Darty.

Electronic waste is a source of great concern and for good reason, only a tiny part is recycled while the rest is incinerated, polluting the air a little more. While our consumption habits are changing with the increasingly popular refurbished, Acer has won the bet to develop an eco-responsible laptop. And, no need to incur debt to do something for the planet, since the Acer Aspire Vero National Geographic edition benefits a reduction of 300 euros.

Features of the Acer Aspire Vero AV15-51R-550M

  • A PCR frame for the green touch
  • The 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor
  • The repairability index

Instead of the usual 899.99 euros, the Acer Aspire Vero AV15-51R-550M is now available on sale at 599.99 euros at Darty.

An eco-friendly laptop

This is the major argument of the Acer Aspire Vero. Its chassis is made from 30% recycled plastic and can be 100% recycled again. It is easily removable and also displays a repairability rate of 8.2/10. On the other hand, the material might not please everyone since we are on a kind of rough plastic, and the National Geographic logo does not change much. And on the design side, the Acer Aspire Vero is far from being a canon of beauty, there is no layer of varnish or paint. We only have the raw material sprinkled here and there with colored glitter.

The screen is a 15.6-inch IPS panel in Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and is also 99% recyclable. Its quality is however not really brilliant, we have in particular a brightness which does not reach 250 cd / m² and a response time higher than the average. Its dimensions are limited for this laptop to deserve the name of ultrabook, especially since its weight is close to 2 kg. Just with these characteristics, we are entitled to wonder if this laptop deserves its introductory price of 899.99 euros.

For office use only

The Acer Aspire Vero features an Intel Core i5-1155G7 processor with 4 cores and 8 threads clocked at 2.5 GHz base frequency and 4.5 GHz in boost mode. It is supported by 8 GB of DDR4 RAM to accomplish all your tasks smoothly, but it will be necessary to stick to office use. The processor’s GPU is an Intel Iris Xe and will only be able to run modest games, and with the high response time we were talking about above, the conditions aren’t exactly optimal for gaming.

Autonomy is however interesting since it is around 9 hours and storage is provided by a 512 GB NVMe SSD for ultra-fast loading times. The range of connectors is complete with a USB-A 2.0 port, two USB-A 3.2 ports, a USB-C port, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and the essential 3.5 mm jack port. We can salute the efforts of Acer for having developed the most eco-responsible laptop we have ever seen, but it’s a shame that the quality and price do not follow.
