Apple’s planned modifications to the buttons of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are due to appear in autumn 2023, also require changes to the operation of standard functions such as the smartphone’s hard reset. That’s what a Twitter leaker claims. According to @analyst941, who refers to informed circlesthe volume buttons will no longer work to force a reboot needed.

Currently you have to follow a rather complex sequence here: First press “Volume Up”, then “Volume Down” and finally press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. On the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the new action button that replaces the slide switch for mute should now also be used for the reset.

This should make it easier for the user to remember the sequence – which we hope will only be used infrequently. In the future, the volume buttons would only be responsible for the volume on modern iPhones. According to recent reports, they will continue to be mechanical and will remain split between two buttons. Apple is said to have recently had technical problems with the implementation and is therefore only adding the action button as the only change. iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will stay with the old controls.

Furthermore, @analyst941 claims that the new action button (action button) can not only be freely configured, but can also be used for special functions that depend on the type of pressure. Thanks to capacitive solid-state technology, the button can apparently recognize lighter and harder presses – a bit like 3D Touch on the screen. In the camera app, this should be used, among other things, to focus with a light pressure, to take photos with a strong pressure and to trigger a video recording with a strong, longer pressure.

Thanks to the capacitive technology, the action button can distinguish different forces from light touch to firm pressure, which Apple then wants to take advantage of to trigger functions. As already mentioned, this used to be possible on the iPhone screen. Apple Watch users also know the “firm pressure” from earlier, when you could call up additional menus.
