British actor Simon Pegg says he struggled with alcohol problems on the set of Mission: Impossible III (2006). “I was in this big blockbuster movie and yet I was in this kind of horrible panic,” the 53-year-old said on Sunday on the BBC program “Desert Island Discs”.

The reason for his feelings was depression, which he tried to fight with alcohol. “When you’re depressed, you want to change how you’re feeling.”

The alcohol problems would have accompanied him until 2010 – everyone would have worried: “You learn to do it without anyone noticing because it takes control,” Pegg continued.

Eventually he managed to get help. In the interview, Pegg also said his depression started in his teens. But at the time he couldn’t classify his feelings: “I just knew that I didn’t feel good,” said Pegg.

Pegg plays fellow agent Ethan Hunt in the action series Mission: Impossible, starring Tom Cruise as Benji Dunn. He has been in the series’ films since 2006. He also stars in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which is due to hit theaters in July. (dpa)
