LOS ANGELES.- Los actors of Hollywood ratified the agreement with the studios that ended their strike after almost four months, union leaders announced Tuesday.
Approval of the three-year contract by members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) was not a sure thing, after some important members had expressed disagreement with the pact that the union leaders had negotiated.
The 78% of the votes in favor in the vote that began on November 13 and ended on Tuesday, December 5 was far from the practically unanimous approval and general enthusiasm with which the members of the writers’ union ended their strike in September.

But the result is a huge relief for SAG-AFTRA leaders and an entertainment industry trying to get back on track after several months of labor problems. In addition, it puts an official end to Hollywood’s most tumultuous work year in half a century, in which two historic strikes shook the industry.
“This contract is a huge win for stage workers, and marks the beginning of a new era for the industry,” the union said in a tweet announcing the results Tuesday night.
Just over 38% of members voted, the union said.
“More votes in favor than I anticipated and very happy to see this, because despite the strong dissenting voices on social networks, this shows that the members are still strong and united,” said the actor. A rejection of the agreement would have meant returning to the negotiating table, and with it, the possibility of the actors resuming the strike if the leaders called it.
