The latest Active Population Survey shows that among those under 30 years of age, unemployment has risen by 16,600 people and stands at 838,900 unemployed. The unemployment rate rose to 22.61% in the first quarter of 2023, 0.37 points more than the previous quarter, a situation that is accentuated for those under 25 years of age. Youth unemployment in Spain stood at 30%, the second highest in the OECD and the first in the European Union. However, according to Adecco, 8 out of 10 companies have difficulties filling their jobs and 10% of the vacancies available in the labor market remain unfilled.

Faced with this problem, Adecco has launched an initiative aimed at Generation Z called ‘Working on you’, which aims to provide practical knowledge that are useful for the incorporation into the labor market. According to the employment company, the program “promotes training and employment projects with the collaboration of companies and universities to respond to this current social problem and improve the youth-work relationship.” To do this, the company has the collaboration of companies such as Iberdrola, Microsoft, IAMCP, Abanca, Cobega, Dorna, Greenalia, Televes, Fiact Seguros or Veritas, with which it will offer internships, scholarships and training programs.

According to Iker Barricat, president of The Adecco Group Spain: “In Spain, the youth unemployment is a major concern, and it is our duty to address this challenge proactively. Youth unemployment can have devastating consequences, both individually and for society as a whole. It limits the access of young people to opportunities for personal and professional development, and can generate demotivation, lack of confidence and inequality”.

For this reason, Barricat adds that “they are committed to offering tools and resources that allow young people to stand out in the workplace” and points out that the various training and job offers of ‘Trabajando en ti’ seek to satisfy the demands and needs of a public with different training profiles: University, Vocational Training, profiles with or without experience.

concludes that «youth unemployment cannot be ignored, and as a company they assume the responsibility of promoting significant changes in this area” and that “they work in collaboration with governments, educational institutions and organizations to provide them with the necessary support on this issue”.
