The Algerian Gold and Jewelery Organization has denied the information published by the Consumer Protection Association (APOCE), concerning the volume of adulterated gold circulating on the markets, which amounts to 80%.
In a statement, the organization said it denies the allegations made by the head of the Consumer Protection Organization, which it says do not reflect the truth, and that it will take legal action against him because of his ” irresponsible statements that lack legal support and official sources, which has damaged its credibility, traders, manufacturers and artisans of jewelry in Algeria”.
Also calling on the head of the National Consumer Protection Organization to seek information from official sources affiliated with the State or from the Algerian Organization of Gold and Jewelery to ensure the validity of the information before publishing it.
According to the press release, traders and craftsmen under the banner of the Algerian Gold and Jewelery Organization remain concerned with protecting the consumer and the national economy.
APOCE wants to create a “National Committee for the Quality of Gold”
The Algerian Organization for Consumer Protection and Orientation (APOCE), announced last November the creation of a committee under the name of “National Committee for the Quality of Gold” and confirmed that at least 80% of the gold traded is non-compliant.
APOCE had explained that “it wishes to purify the gold market and consolidate all that is qualitative in trading. This is why Consumer Protection has decided, in accordance with its fundamental law, to create a committee under the name of “National Committee for the Quality of Gold”. »
In addition, the Algerian Consumer Protection and Guidance Organization continued in its publication that the task of this committee is to present proposals to the public authorities and seek to ensure quality, which has unfortunately become completely disrespectful. This seriously harms and threatens the national economy and the material interests of the consumer. Especially if we accept the existence of 40 to 50 tons of gold consumed annually, the rate of fraud and scam in it is comparable to what is not done by 80%.
