The City Police detained two Venezuelan citizens, ages 26 and 35, who posed as Uber drivers to rob passengers at the Jorge Newbery Airport.

The thieves were arrested after an investigation that began for a robbery that occurred on January 24, when a couple was going to their home in the Buenos Aires town of Benavídez.

As detailed in the complaint, the driver had told them that the trunk was not working, asking them to place the bags in front of the window. Before reaching the destination, they were intercepted by two vehicles that forced the car to stop, after which several people got out and went to the doors where the suitcases were and rebuked the victims to ask them about the “Rolex” brand watch.

According to police sources detailed to NA, “during the trip the driver sent many messages with his phone.” “After the investigation was carried out, the Uber driver and one of the perpetrators of the robbery were arrested,” the spokesmen added.

Meanwhile, they indicated that three raids were carried out by the Robbery and Theft Division together with personnel from the Tigre DDI of the Buenos Aires Police, for the crime of “Robbery aggravated by the use of weapons”, with the intervention of the National Court Requests by Dr. Gabriel Omar Ghirlanda.

In addition to the two detainees, firearms, cash, various documents, electronic devices and vehicles were seized. Seven cell phones and a white Renault Logan vehicle were seized from one of the subjects, which they would have used to commit the robberies. For his part, another of the individuals had two cell phones kidnapped.
