The latest model of Chat GPT has attracted a lot of attention since it was launched earlier this year. Experts and AI researchers have come out in an open letter and called for the development of new AI technology paused for six months.
– They have failed to get Chat GPT to behave in line with what we want it to do, says Olle Häggström, professor at Chalmers University of Technology and one of those who signed the open letter.
The Expert: Existential threat
A few weeks ago, Italy blocked Chat GPT, as they believe that the chatbot’s collection of data may violate the GDPR and because it is difficult to ensure that the age limits are followed.
Olle Häggström believes that Chat GPT 4 is alarmingly smart and capable of making independent decisions. He believes that the new technology could pose an existential threat if it is allowed to continue to develop.
– Somewhere there is a world model at Chat GPT, but we know very little about what it looks like. Therefore, we also do not know what the AI strives for with its actions.
