It will be a stop-motion adaptation of the novel The Buried Giant written by British author Kazuo Ishiguro.

Guillermo del Toro is once again getting into animation. After the success of his adaptation of Pinocchioin the running for the Oscars, the director will develop a new stop-motion project for Netflix.

According The Hollywood Reporterit will be an adaptation of the novel The Buried Giant by British writer Kazuo Ishiguro, winner of a Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007.

Guillermo Del Toro will direct and produce this project from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dennis Kelly, the musical’s screenwriter Matildabased on the work of Roald Dahl.

“It is a great honor and a greater responsibility for me to direct this screenplay that Dennis Kelly and I are adapting from Kazuo Ishiguro’s powerful and imaginative novel,” said the Mexican filmmaker in a press release relayed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Real success since its release in November 2022 on Netflix, the adaptation by Guillermo del Toro of the classic of Italian literature Pinocchiospent four weeks on Netflix’s Top 10 English Movies list.

Winner of a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, Pinocchio is also in the running for the Oscars. In the category of best animated film, Guillermo del Toro will notably face filmmaker Joel Crawford for the film Puss in Boots 2 as well as director Domee Shi for Turning Red.
