A death threat is said to have been made against the resigned state chairwoman of the Brandenburg Green Party, Julia Schmidt, after her resignation. This newspaper found out on Monday evening from Potsdam political circles. Accordingly, the police state security have started the investigation. The threat is said to have been received online, and the politician is said to have filed a complaint.

It was initially unclear whether there was a connection to current political events in the Brandenburg Greens. When asked, Schmidt did not want to comment on the process.

The 29-year-old Schmidt resigned on Friday evening under pressure from the party executive as co-chair of the Greens in the state. The board had previously withdrawn the politician’s confidence because of allegedly “repeated cases of intolerable misconduct”. It was later specified that Schmidt had prepared her top candidacy for the 2024 state elections – sometimes with unfair means.

Schmidt has been at the head of the Brandenburg Greens since the end of 2019. She was considered an important contact person for the coalition partners of the SPD and CDU.
