Chihuahua.- A 40 percent reduction was recorded by the city of Chihuahua during the month of April in the number of intentional homicides, compared to the previous month, closing with 30 murders, according to the report issued by the District Attorney’s Office for the Central Zone.

According to the murder registry, the month of March, which has been the most violent in recent years, ended with 46 victims; In total in the first quarter of 2023 there are already 154 murders in the capital.

April is the month with the least number of intentional homicides so far this year in the state capital, since January registered 42; February 36; March 46, while April closed with 30, according to data issued by the Central Zone Prosecutor’s Office.

It should be noted that the first quarter of this year has been the most violent in the city since 2018, adding 124 murders, largely caused by the 46 added in March.

Most of the murders registered here are linked to drug dealing, a crime in which three criminal organizations are mainly related as responsible: “The Company” to which they attribute the highest number of murders with more than 70 percent, as well as group related to La Línea and the Sinaloa cartel, which have a greater presence in the southeastern part of the city.

So far this year, the city has recorded 154 murders; while 2022 closed with 418; in 2021 it registered 397 and in 2020 it added 414 murders, according to official figures handled by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Among the events with the greatest impact that occurred in April is the multiple execution that occurred last Saturday night in which four people were murdered at a home in Riberas del Sacramento, a place where on April 17, two people were murdered.

At the state level, the estimated reduction is 31 percent, going from 203 murders registered during March to 140 reported this month, the lowest figure in the year, since 180 occurred in January and 184 during February.

The decrease in cases in Ciudad Juárez stands out, which had 75 against the 119 cases presented the previous month. There was also a reduction in Cuauhtémoc, where nine homicides were recorded, while in January there were 10; in February 14 and another 13 in March.

Among the events that stand out in the state, is what happened in the municipality of Madera, where the dispute over clandestine logging left five people dead on April 18.

The Attorney General, César Jáuregui, said that a notable containment was achieved in the number of homicides in the state, but acknowledged that the figures are still high, so coordinated operations will continue with the authorities of the three levels of government to maintain numbers down.

The reduction in the number of homicides occurs after March marked a considerable increase in this type of crime, forcing the authorities to strengthen strategies and presence in various sectors of the urban sprawl to counter organized crime.
