Queretaro, Qro. During this year, the local industry estimates to achieve an annual growth that fluctuates between 9 and 12% in production, according to projections of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) Querétaro delegation.

The expectation of growth is presented after having resumed the pre-pandemic activity, after the productive fall that implied the health contingency by the Covid-19, explained the state president of Canacintra, Esaú Magallanes Alonso.

In the first quarter alone, he estimated, the industrial activity presented a growth of 3 to 4% compared to the same period of 2019.

“We are already at 100% (in pre-pandemic production), we are already above how we were in the pandemic, we believe that we are 3-4% above how we were in 2019, in the same quarter,” he explained.

Therefore, he predicted that 2023 will be a better year for this economic activity; In this way, an ambitious projection of annual growth was established, which is expected to exceed the national average.

“It looks much better (2023). (…) We were forecasting a growth of around 12%, the truth is very ambitious, but I think that we are going to achieve great growth, ”she pointed out.

Esau Magallanes trusted that the automotive industry would remain the main driver of industrial activity in Querétaro, given the increase in demand for supply.

“He automotive section is the one that is moving the most. With the issue of companies, the substitution of imports and with the issue that the United States is requiring Mexican imports, instead of Chinese, all this is also being seen very accelerated ”, he stated.

Given the trend shown by the North American market to reduce dependence on Asian imports, the industrialist highlighted that a state like Querétaro has opportunities to participate in this substitution process.

In this sense, it is expected that the participation of the local supplier of the automotive industry will extend to the supply chains of the factory that Tesla will install in Nuevo León.

“I think the automotive issue is a great opportunity, we are also going to talk about the electrical automotive industry, we know that Tesla It will be installed in Nuevo León, but here in Querétaro we are going to supply many parts for electric cars,” he said.

During 2022, the state’s secondary activities grew 3.4% compared to the previous year, a variation that was below the 9.1% of 2021, according to the recent results of the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE).

The advance of the secondary sector allowed it to contribute 1.3 percentage points to state growth, which was 3.7% during the previous year.
