How do I play Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition with a keyboard and mouse?
While it’s not difficult to get a keyboard and mouse to work on Xbox consoles (just plug in the peripherals), being able to enjoy it on Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is clearly not intuitive! Indeed, if you start a game directly, you will find that your mouse is not recognized and that the keyboard arrows will act like an analog stick.
Suffice to say, playing in these conditions is clearly not acceptable, so it is necessary to take a quick tour of the settings to take full advantage of the title with your devices!
Steps to follow to correctly detect the keyboard and mouse
- From the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition main menu, click on the gear at the top of the screen.
- Click on “Options”.
- Click on the “Interface” tab.
- Change the “Button” setting from “Gamepad to “Mouse/Keyboard”.
- Exit and save settings.
After these few small manipulations, you are ready to (re)live the experience as on PC. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It is of course included in Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
