Juarez City.- In just three months, the cost of air transportation rose by almost 30 percent.

According to the National Consumer Price Index released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), from January to March of this year the increase was 29.83 percent.

In the same quarter of 2022, the increase was 58.25 percent, so this year’s figure was lower.

According to TAR personnel, there are different factors that have impacted the cost of plane tickets on each airline, although in their case it is the rise in jet fuel.

“Fuel has been a variable and it is one of the costs that most impacts the price of tickets,” he said.

Data from the Airports and Auxiliary Services page (which sells fuel to airlines) show that the current price of jet fuel in Ciudad Juárez is 16.85195 pesos per liter plus VAT, against the 15.60002 plus VAT that it costs, for example, in Mérida.

In other cities such as Monterrey it is sold for 15.66605 pesos per liter, while at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) it is worth 15.53052.

A year ago, the cost of air transportation at this border had shown a drop of 2.14 percent during March.

However, the price of tickets began to increase from January of this year.

From January to February the increase was 33.76 percent, although it dropped to 29.83 in March.

In general, foreign public transport rose 8.49 percent from January to March of this year, while from the third month of 2022 to 2023 the increase was 9.43 percent.

In the case of the foreign bus, the increase during the first quarter of 2023 was 1.89 percent, while from March of last year to the same period in question it was 13.39 percent.
