LORD Alan Sugar insists his Amstrad products were better than the ‘Apple garbage’ on the market today.

The British business magnate, 75, says his 1980s technology has stood the test of time, as companies like Apple create technology that barely lasts a season.

Lord Sugar said: “We make quality products. Not like that Apple garbage where you have to change it every time they come out with a new number. My business lasted forever.

Speaking to Radio Times, he added: ‘I get all that s*** – it hasn’t left me behind. Believe me, I’m on top.

Despite Sugar’s criticism, California-based tech giant Apple is the world’s most valuable company with a valuation of $2.3 trillion.

Founded by the late Steve Jobs and his business partner Steve Wozniak in 1977, the company has sold more than two billion iPhones, the product that popularized smartphones.

Lord Sugar was knighted in 2000 and in 2009 became Baron Sugar of Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney.

He is now expected to be worth £1.2billion.

Not bad for a boy who started selling electrical appliances from the back of a van in London’s East End when he was a teenager.

Then when he turned 21 and created the company that would make him a millionaire – Amstrad.

Short for “Alan Michael Sugar Trading”, it has helped fill our homes with computers, stereos, telephones, fax machines and other electrical appliances like Sky set-top boxes.

It’s fair to say that the company, which had a huge profile and made millions, never quite got the respect for innovation it deserved, as Lord Sugar is keen to point out.

He said: “We made Amstrad’s first videophone called the E-mailer and everyone took the shit out of it.

“I’ve sold over half a million pieces. It was running on an old BT copper line – if you stuck it to wired broadband you’d have a video conference right there. So we were ahead of the game.

This Thursday, fans will eagerly tune in to BBC One to watch the latest episode of The Apprentice.

Lord Sugar has helmed the hugely popular show since its launch in 2005 and it is currently in its 17th series.

The group of 2023 hopefuls is slowly shrinking, with another hearing Lord Sugar’s famous words, “You’re fired!” this week.

Last Thursday, Leicestershire youngster Denisha Kaur Bharj got the boot after the fan-favorite “shopping” task.

Items contestants had to procure and barter included a gardening stuff, desert roses from Sahrah and 1kg of asparagus – picked on the same day.
