Remedy has unveiled the results for its first quarter of 2023. The studio has many projects in development and we were able to learn more about the progress of these.

Alan Wake 2 is in final production

The first good news concerns Alan Wake 2. The title is now in the final stage of its production and should therefore be released this year. The development team is currently complete and the game is “on its way to becoming a great game”. It’s still Remedy’s biggest project to date and it’s currently getting the studio’s full attention:

Alan Wake 2 is on its way to becoming a big game and everyone at Remedy is excited. We have started the last major phase of production so that the game will be ready for launch later this year. The project team is fully staffed, but we may begin to gradually reduce staff as we get closer to launch. Developers released in this way will contribute to our other game projects that are in the process of moving to the next stages of development.

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy, says he is impressed by the quality of the work and the speed of development of the team, and affirms that Alan Wake 2 will be a game “of which we will all be proud” and appreciated by players:

This will be the first new game launch since Control in 2019. Alan Wake 2 will be a game we will all be proud of and most importantly, I’m sure players will enjoy playing it.

Control 2 and Codename Condor are progressing well

Games in the Control universe are also progressing well since we learn that Control 2 is now at the “proof of concept” stage. The game remains planned exclusively on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5.

During the first quarter, the development team focused on world building and game mechanics. Additionally, we developed the game’s visual target.

On his side, Codename Condorcooperative play in the Control universe, continues to progress and the studio claims to have found new ways to use the assets and locations of the Control universe:

Codename Condor, a cooperative multiplayer game in the Control universe, continued to progress steadily through proof of concept. We were able to prove key designs for gameplay and found new ways to use existing assets and locations from the original Control game universe.

Max Payne remakes are progressing

Finally, it was the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes that were mentioned, and we learn that they are also progressing well since they are now also in the proof of concept stage. As a reminder, these two remakes are developed in collaboration with Rockstar and planned for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC.

The development team has worked efficiently to prove the key elements of Max Payne and to bring the game in high quality to today’s consoles and PCs. We expect the project to continue to progress satisfactorily and as a result the team size will gradually increase towards the end of the year.

We obviously look forward to learning more about these different games, and it’s nice to see that Remedy seems to have found a satisfying rhythm allowing him to work on multiple projects.
