The President of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarola, pointed out last Thursday some points that undermined the diplomatic image of Peru, in the context of the protests against the constitutional succession of Dina Boluarte to the presidency of the country and the ideological pronouncement of presidents of neighboring countries in the VII Celac Summit.

The premier referred to the comments made by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), Colombian President Gustavo Petro, among other heads of state, against the Government of Boluarte Zegarra during a critical moment. In this sense, he accused them of “ignoring” the attempted coup led by Pedro Castillo last December.

“In Peru, what has happened is a constitutional succession and that is what is intended to be ignored. And I have not heard any of these presidents comment on the coup d’état announced by Mr. Pedro Castillo on national and international channels,” he mentioned. Alberto Otárola during an interview with Willax TV.

Likewise, he spoke exclusively about the attitude that AMLO has taken since the beginning of the social and political tension that exists in Peru. The premier accused him of encouraging Peruvians to continue fighting.

“These statements have done a lot of damage to the country. For example, the first statements by Mexican President López Obrador when we were in the middle of a violent riot, and he declared and declared about Peru and that further encouraged the social actors in our country, ”he indicated.

In another moment of the dialogue with Beto Ortiz, Otárola highlighted the response of Foreign Minister Ana Gervasi in the CELAC Summit where the leaders of Latin American countries tried to ignore the Government of Dina Boluarte.

“Our chancellor’s response has been brilliant and forceful and this has been recognized by an important press,” he said and announced that measures will be taken to defend the rule of law and the diplomatic image of Peru, including withdrawing some ambassadors Peruvians from countries that do not contribute to the cessation of violence in our country.

During her participation in the CELAC summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ana Cecilia Gervasidifferentiated the peaceful protest of historically marginalized sectors from “violent actions with the intention of subverting the constitutional order and achieving political objectives that these groups cannot achieve through the constitutional channel.”

In reference to the deaths produced in the context of acts of violence, the Chancellor Gervasi indicated that “the prosecution investigates with total autonomy and accompanies the National Police in actions to control violence and protect the lives of people, of the 33 million Peruvians who are the true victims of this situation of violence”.

Likewise, he questioned that “some governments, from particularly close countries, have not accompanied Peru in this difficult institutional situation and, rather, have prioritized ideological affinity, unequivocal support for the rule of law and constitutional succession.”

Lastly, the Chancellor made a call to the members of the CELAC so that they “support the only democratic and institutional way out of this crisis: early general elections, so that the people of Peru, in a sovereign manner and without any interference, decide their future in peace and freedom,” as well as “reject all measures aimed at violating stability and democratic institutions in Peru”.
