Alec Baldwin gives thanks after manslaughter trial ends early

SANTA FE, New Mexico.- Alec Baldwin offered his first public statements to thank his fans on Saturday after the surprising early end of his career. judgment for involuntary manslaughter.

“There are so many people who have supported me that I want to thank at this time,” Baldwin said in a brief Instagram post that accompanied a photo of himself sitting in a courtroom in Santa Fe, New Mexico. “To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your love for my family.”

The actor cried a day earlier when Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case three days into the trial and said he could not be criminally charged again for the murder of the director of photography. Halyna Hutchinswho was shot while filming the movie Rust in 2021. Neither he nor his lawyers spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.

The evidence that sank the case was ammunition brought to Santa Fe County Sheriff’s headquarters in March by a man who said it might be linked to Hutchins’ death. Prosecutors said they considered the ammunition unrelated and unimportant to the incident on the movie set, but Baldwin’s attorneys argued it had been buried and filed a motion to dismiss the case.

The judge said the withholding of evidence tarnished the fundamental fairness of the trial of Baldwin, 66, who could have been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
