Last week, the national shipping company took a drastic decision regarding the boarding of certain commercial vehicles on its ships. Indeed, this is what emerges from a press release, published on the official page of Algeria ferries.

On the latter, the national maritime carrier indicates that utility vehicles, such as Vans, Partners, J5s, etc., are no longer authorized to board ships from Algeria ferries. Again, the latter did not explain the reasons for such a decision, which took effect on December 28, 2022.

Vehicles prohibited from boarding by Algeria ferries: who is concerned?

On the other hand, things seem to be a little clearer. Indeed, a document, published by the specialized page Transit Green Line, bearing the stamp of the Minister of Transport and addressed to the director of the national shipping company, gives more information concerning this decision.

The document in question explains that this decision is part of the monitoring of vehicle traffic on the company’s ships. And concerns empty utility vehicles departing from Algeria. According to this missive, the boarding of this type of vehicle prevents the smooth running of the registration and boarding of travelers. Thus causing delays and impacting passenger comfort.

In this wake, this same document specifies that the ban does not apply to commercial vehicles of travelers residing abroad and which are used on a regular basis. But also, which are intended for use other than tourism and personal. Thus, passengers residing abroad can still embark with their commercial vehicles with Algeria ferries. In addition, the letter from the Ministry of Transport indicates that verifications of the dates of the tickets, outward and return, must be applied.
