The winter season marked its return to Algeria with cold weather, snowfall and rainstorms. For this Friday, January 27, 2023, the National Office of Meteorology (ONM) has placed several wilayas of the country on vigilance, warning against snowfall, cold and rain.
In a special weather report (BMS), Météo Algérie placed the wilayas of: Naama, south of Tlemcen, El Bayadh, Sidi Bel Abbes on orange vigilance, level 2. As well as Saida, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’sila, Médéa, Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Sétif, Mila, Constantine, Khenchela, Batna, Oum El Bouaghi and Tébessa. Warning of a drop in temperature and an episode of extreme cold.
Indeed, according to the same source, the maximum temperatures will vary between 4°C and 6°C, while the minimum temperatures will be around -3°C and -6°C. The validity of this BMS extends from Thursday January 26 until Saturday January 28, 2023.
Regarding snowfall and ice, the ONM services have placed the wilayas of: Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Naama, El Bayadh, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Laghouat, Djelfa, Médéa on orange level 2 vigilance, Ain Defla, Blida, Boumerdes, Tizi-Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj and Bouira. The thickness of the snow will reach between 10 and 20 cm, noted Météo Algérie, adding that this BMS is in progress until at least 6:00 p.m. this evening.
BMS – Weather Algeria: rain alert in 25 wilayas this Friday
In addition, the same services indicated that the rain will affect 25 wilayas of the country this Friday. Initially, these are the wilayas of: Bejaïa, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, north of Sétif, Mila, Constantine, Guelma and Souk Ahras. The amounts of rain estimated at these wilayas will vary between 30 and 50 mm, possibly reaching or exceeding 60 mm locally. And this, until 6 p.m. tonight.
In addition, the BMS of Météo Algérie indicated that other wilayas will be affected by the rain. These are the wilayas of Tlemcen, Ain Témouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Blida, Relizane, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbes, Ain Defla, Médéa and Bouira. Where the estimated rainfall amounts will reach between 20 and 40 mm. This BMS is in progress and will remain valid until noon.
What are the forecasts for January 27?
In addition to the BMS, Météo Algérie also communicated the weather forecast for this Friday, January 27. Thus, according to the ONM, “an often cloudy sky with a few rain showers will cover the western regions of the country”. While in the central and eastern regions of the country, Météo Algérie has forecast “the maintenance of often cloudy weather with rains sometimes in the form of stormy showers and accompanied by falling hail”.
Concerning the Saharan regions, the services of the ONM have forecast “a temporarily cloudy sky and relatively cold weather, over the Becharois, the northern Sahara and the oases. And generally clear skies in other regions.
Finally, Météo Algérie reported that the maximum temperatures forecast for this Friday will vary between 8°C and 14°C in the coastal regions, between 3°C and 12°C in the interior regions. And between 10°C and 29°C in the Saharan regions. Thus, the ONM has forecast 7°C in Bouira and Saida, 8°C in Tebessa. But also 11°C in Tenes, Guelma and Algiers, 12°C in Jijel, Relizane and El Tarf. As well as 13°C in Oran and 15°C in El Oued and Illizi.
