On June 1, 2022, a jury in Fairfax Court, Virginia, ruled that Amber Heard slandered her ex-husband Johnny Depp through an opinion piece written for the Washington Post in 2018, the same in which he alluded to his case of abuse. Although the actress never named Johnny in the letter, the actor argued that his reputation was affected by it.

In view of this, the Court imposed on Amber Heard a $10 million payment to Johnny Depp as part of compensatory damages, plus another $5 million in punitive damages, for a total of $15 million. However, months after the verdict, the ex-couple reached an out-of-court agreement with which the actress from ‘Aquaman‘ promised to pay one million dollars.

Amber Heard pays off her debt to Johnny Depp

Now, one year after the verdict in the defamation trial, the portal TMZ has made it known that Amber Heard finally settled her debt with her ex-husband, since she has already made the million dollar payment.

According to the aforementioned portal, Depp will donate all the money to five different charitieswhich means that each will receive a donation of $200,000 dollars. The non-profit organizations to which the money will be donated are Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle. Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society y Amazonia Alliance.

Each of them represent the causes Depp believes in; including help for sick children, the preservation of ecosystems and natural environments, providing housing to marginalized communities and fulfilling the dreams of children and people within the world of cinema.

With this, Depp remains firm in the position that led him to file a lawsuit against his ex-wife: Restore your reputation without getting anything in return.
