Ambulance response times are slower

A new report reveals that ambulance response times in the city are getting longer.

Gothamist conducted a study of municipal data revealing emergency medical services response times during Memorial Day week.

They found that ambulances took just under 13 minutes to respond to life-threatening medical emergencies, and more than 28 minutes to arrive on scene in non-emergency situations. The study found that was in line with significant ambulance wait times during the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The average time for an ambulance to arrive at a location after being dispatched increased 69 seconds (to nearly 11 minutes) in the fiscal year that ended last June, compared with two years earlier, according to the mayor’s management report.

A national study conducted in 2017 found that the average emergency services response time for urban cities was around 7 minutes.

The time between the departure and arrival of ambulances has increased compared to the same months last year in the city.
