President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) announced that he contracted COVID-19 againfor which he will be away from public activities for a few days and was the reason why he had to suspend the tour that he undertook over the weekend in the southern peninsula of the country.
Through his Twitter account, the Mexican president explained that his contagion is not serious and that, in addition, his heart is at 100; however, he confirmed that suspended his tour of the south of the nation—where he was supervising the construction of the Mayan Train— to return to Mexico City.
In his message, the Tabasco politician also confirmed that, although he is already in the capital of the country, he will not be able to celebrate his 16th birthday with his youngest son, Jesús Ernesto, since he will stay away from his office and personal activities. Therefore, the head of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), Adam Augusto Lopez Hernández, will lead the morning conferences.
“No way, friends and friends: I tested positive for COVID-19. It’s not serious. My heart is 100 and since I had to suspend the tour I am far away celebrating the 16th birthday of Jesús Ernesto. I will save a few days. Adán Augusto López will lead the morning sessions. See you soon ”, he wrote this Sunday, April 23.
It is the third time that the Mexican president has been infected with the SAR-COV-2 virus. The first happened on January 24, 2021, after having toured the state of Nuevo León in which inaugurated a National Guard barracks together with the then governor Jaime Rodríguez.
A year later, the Tabasco politician announced his second contagion on January 10, 2022, after he appeared at the morning conference that same day with a hoarse voice: “Yes, I woke up hoarseI’m going to do the test later, but I think it’s the flu.”
Before López Obrador confirmed his third infection this Sunday, doubts began about his state of health, because some local media in Quinta Roo reported that the president had fainted; neverthelessneither the presidency nor the spokesperson confirmed such information.
The concern was greater because the president suffers from hypertension and in 2013 he already had a heart attackfor which many pointed out that this had been the reason why he canceled his tour this weekend.
After the announcement of the contagion, the politicians of the Fourth Transformation positioned themselves on social networks and wished the president a speedy recovery.
One of the first to react was the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who in a short message wished for the recovery of Tabasco: “We wish you a very speedy recovery with all our love”.
Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, head of the Secretariat for Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), did the same, who also took the opportunity to congratulate AMLO’s youngest son: “From the bottom of our hearts, we wish him a speedy recovery. Everything will be fine! Congratulations to Jesus Ernesto”.
The national president of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), Mario Delgado Carrillo, responded to the president’s tweet assuring that the people of Mexico will wait for the president’s return to public activities: “Dear president, @lopezobrador_, the people of Mexico awaits you. We wish you a speedy recovery. Cheer up!”.
