Mexico City.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denied that the #SelvameDelTren collective had obtained an injunction to suspend the felling and clearing of the jungle throughout Section 5 of the Mayan Train, which runs from Cancun to Tulum.

“There is no suspension, it does not exist. Yesterday they asked me that, and it is a letter that the judge has not resolved yet,” he said in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, where he is to supervise that work.

On Tuesday, by two votes to one, the First Collegiate Labor and Administrative Court of the Fourteenth Circuit granted a provisional suspension in a new protection of the #SelvameDelTren collective, which has been litigating against the work for almost a year.

The suspension will be in force, at least, until February 2, when Judge Adrián Zepeda will hold the incidental hearing of amparo 2878/2022, and will decide whether to grant a definitive suspension.

In his press conference yesterday, the President affirmed that most of the amparo requests against the mega-project of 1,554 kilometers and an original budget of 140 billion pesos had been declared inadmissible.

“There were many protections, and we already have the entire stretch free,” he said.

“Hopefully and what you say about the protection, because I did not have information, it is not so serious, because now I am going to that, that it is not stopping, because time is wasted,” he added when asked about the new suspension.

This Saturday, on his private tour, López Obrador met with the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, to review the progress of the Train.

Before boarding a van, the President insisted that the Train will be inaugurated in December, as promised.

“It is progressing and it will be inaugurated in December of this year, but we have to be constantly supervising. The companies, the military engineers are working very well, and the people of Quintana Roo and the entire Yucatan peninsula are helping, they are supporting “, he claimed.

Despite his optimism, López Obrador acknowledged on Friday that every 15 days he supervises the work. “We have to inaugurate the Mayan Train in December, so that’s why every 15 days I’ll be there,” he said.

In September 2021, President López Obrador promised to visit the work every two months in case it was late.

The President was also asked about the siege by Cancun taxi drivers against the Uber digital platform that won an injunction -a family of tourists was forced to get out of a car this Friday-, but he replied that he had no information.

“Well, I don’t have the information, but you have to find a reconciliation and I have a lot of confidence in Mara Lezama, she will intervene, surely, and the best thing is that there is no confrontation, that there is dialogue, that there is no violence. Love and peace,” he said.
