In just a few years, Uber Eats has established itself as a staple in the daily lives of many people. Alone or with friends, your favorite dish delivered directly to your home can dramatically improve your evening. But at a time when consumers are demanding more transparency, some are concerned about the personal information to which Uber Eats deliverers have access. Many customers have already had unfortunate experiences.

So, to offer you transparency and peace of mind, Uber Eats is introducing a brand new feature on its app: the view as a delivery person. Thanks to this mode, you will be able to know precisely everything that your delivery person knows about you. What reassure more than one customer.

What does your Uber Eats delivery person know?

Address, surname, first name, telephone number… Sometimes your Uber Eats delivery person knows too much about you and this can create uncomfortable or even dangerous situations. Regularly, customers express their concerns to Uber Eats about the amount of personal information that delivery people have about them.

If many consumers are wondering, it is especially women who fear this amount of information available. According to Zach Singleton, director of safety and equity at Uber, women are 53% more likely to be concerned about information held by delivery people after an unpleasant experience.

To offer a more serene experience to its customers, Uber Eats now makes it possible to know the information available to its deliverers. Thus, thanks to the “view as a delivery person”, you can be calm before, during and after the delivery.

From now on, Uber Eats deliverers only have access to your approximate location before picking up your order. Once the latter is retrieved, Uber Eats gives them access to more information. Like your precise address, your first name and the initial of your last name. Of course, they also have the delivery instructions available to ensure that your order arrives as you wish.

But once the order has been placed, the delivery person only has your approximate location. This should reassure consumers. In addition, Uber Eats also specifies the information that remains confidential regardless. In case of delivery of alcohol, an identity document is requested. Thus, Uber Eats will indicate the data that will be in possession of your deliverer.

Unfortunately, this feature is only available in the US and Canada at this time. But it’s a safe bet that this “view as a delivery man” mode could land in Europe and France in the coming months. Note that Uber had already launched a similar feature in 2020.
