A few days ago, we celebrated the sixteenth anniversary of the iPhone. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled the first Apple smartphone. A real revolution in the world of tech that has enabled Apple to establish itself among the leaders in mobile telephony. As we are now on the fourteenth iteration of the iPhone, a new auction is celebrating a vintage iPhone still in its box.

Organized by LGG Auctions, it started on Thursday and will continue until February 19. Interviewed by Apple Insider, the owner of the iPhone 2G, Karen Green, said that the device had been given to her by friends in 2007 when she had just obtained a management position at PetSmart. But at the time, she had three phone lines with Verizon. The original iPhone, however, was only compatible with AT&T. In doing so, she decided to put the phone aside.

How much is the first iPhone worth now?

In 2019, she had the still-sealed iPhone appraised with an estimated value of $5,000. Deciding to wait again to raise its price, she finally resolved to put it up for sale this year in order to finance her newly created business. “If I could wait another 10 years, I probably would”assures Green to Business Insider. “The only reason I’m selling this phone is to support this company.”

According to an estimate, the sale should bring him nearly 50,000 euros. By way of comparison, an unopened 2007 iPhone sold last October for more than 40,000 euros. Green’s iPhone 2G is now up for auction on LCG Auctions website for a starting price of 2500 dollars. This one should quickly take off to reach heights, the technophile collectors being fond of this type of antiquities always under seal.
