Dand according to a note from António Costa’s office, the cultural program for the celebration of the Carnation Revolution will feature a dozen shows and activities in the garden spaces, aimed at audiences of all ages, music, dance, puppet theater and craft production workshops.

Coro dos Anjos, a group from Lisbon that according to the prime minister’s office “keeps polyphonic singing alive with a traditional Portuguese matrix, contributing to its renewal with a contemporary repertoire”, and the young percussion players Porbatuka, a project by Almada, are other musical contributions.

One year away from the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution, a work by sculptor Rui Chafes will be inaugurated, “especially designed for the garden of the Official Residence”, says António Costa’s office.

The cultural program includes performances by the Ensemble de Metais da Metropolitana, a group made up of students from the Academia Nacional Superior da Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and an open breaking class, which will be an Olympic modality from next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

The dance show by the duo Jonas & Lander, “Bate Fado”, will also be presented, which recovers a historical aspect of fado, and which, like samba or flamenco, was also danced, reads in the note.

As usual, the Palacete de São Bento, the main building of the Prime Minister’s official residence, will be open for visits between 2.30 pm and 6.30 pm on April 25, with the public invited “to discover the Art in São Bento and Design in São Bento”.

“Arte em São Bento presents a selection of works by contemporary Portuguese artists belonging to the Peter Meeker Collection. Design em São Bento is a representative exhibition of national design that integrates furniture and decorative objects in the Official Residence spaces with protocol functions”, indicates the cabinet.

To highlight “the importance of traditional arts and crafts as a living cultural heritage, artisanal practice workshops will be promoted, in collaboration with the National Saber Fazer Programme”.

Conducted by artisans and open to public participation, according to the note, “four workshops are proposed dedicated to different techniques: Wool Processing, Weaving, Palm and Tabua”.

Entrance is free and must be done at Rua da Imprensa à Estrela, in Lisbon.
