He always walks around with his guitar, which he sometimes swaps for his Irish flute, and a pinched cigarette between his lips. He was kicked out of the family home at 16 by an abusive father, who took the keys to the house from him to ensure he wouldn’t return. Left to himself, he squatted vacant lots with other homeless people. To escape poverty and drugs, Gilles worked “everywhere imaginable” : in factories, in the circus, on boats, in a theatre, in private homes for ironing or gardening. His teenage years “complicated” made him mature and conciliatory. This “adventurer” has traveled everywhere from Europe to the Caribbean Sea.
