If her video game CV only includes the character of Tess in the cult game of Naughty Dog and that of Tassyn in the less fortunate Anthem, two roles for which she provided not only the voices but also the gestures by motion capture, Annie Wersching was especially a regular on television series, notably playing notable roles in 24 Hours stopwatch (Renee Walker in seasons 7 and 8) and Star Trek: Picard from which she had just landed an important role (the Borg Queen) in the second season. Like a symbol, it’s in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise that she had made her debut on the screen 20 years earlier, before multiplying the appearances (Charmed, supernatural, Vampire Diaries) or more recurring roles (central hospital, Timeless, Runaways). Married to actor Stephen Full, who gave her three children aged 12, 9 and 4, Annie Wersching was battling cancer diagnosed in 2020. However, she continued to play as much as possible until her last breath on Sunday January 29 in Los Angeles.

Strong ties to The Last of Us team

When the actress’ death was announced, creative director Neil Druckmann and comedian Troy Baker paid tribute to their collaborator while giving the link to the kitty Go Fund Me online for his children. “I have just learned that my dear friend, Annie Wersching, has passed away. We just lost a wonderful artist and a wonderful person. My heart is broken. My thoughts are with his loved ones“, published Neil Druckmann. “Never miss an opportunity to tell someone you’re grateful for the simple gift of knowing them. Annie, a big part of Tess is what you imbued into the character. Your strength is her strength and somehow you not only live in her but also in the many roles you brought to life“, adds Troy Baker.

Ironically, the death of the actress comes just a week after the broadcast of the second episode of the television series The Last of Us, which will remain memorable largely thanks to the character of Tess (camped in the HBO series by Anna Torv). Producer Craig Mazin has also confirmed that a posthumous tribute to Annie Wersching will soon be added to the credits of the third episode of the series, broadcast on the day of her death.
