The FDP has had to take a few hits in state elections since it governed at federal level with the SPD and the Greens. In Bremen, according to the first projections by ARD and ZDF, the party narrowly manages to regain citizenship with losses; it comes to 5.2 percent (2019: 5.9). It is unclear whether the nationwide attention to Ucatis breadcrumbs and her love for the FDP member of the Bundestag Reinhold in Schleswig-Holstein helped.

Overall, the FDP achieved 6.8 percent of the votes in the northernmost state on election Sunday – after counting most of the results from the districts and urban districts. The Liberals were thus able to roughly match the result of 2018.

For the state chairman of the Liberals, Oliver Kumbartzky, a reason to celebrate: The Liberals managed to keep the result of the 2018 election, said Kumbartzky on Sunday evening. “We can be satisfied with that, because it is one of the best results for the Free Democrats in Schleswig-Holstein in local elections in recent decades.”
