Colorful and unpredictable: The Steamworld series

The last sign of life from the Steamworld series was Steam World Quest: Hand of Gilgamech (2019), a combat-oriented card game with a slight RPG twist. We tested the game for you here on PC and Switch. If you want to catch up, you can here on Steam or in the Nintendo eShop strike. The price is 25 euros.

Previously, the developers also had the successful 2D round tactics game Steamworld Heist delivered, which was released for practically all platforms and get very good ratings could. Here’s our test for 3DS and PC. Conclusion: Plays almost like XCOM in space, only from the side view! A surprisingly good, accessible tactical game with a cool tin pirate setting and nice 2D presentation.

The best game from the series so far is, however Steamworld Dig 2 (buy now / €17.99 ), which was released in 2017 and did very well in our test. The Metroidvania with Boulder Dash borrowings picks up the concept of its predecessor perfectly and shines with a good flow of the game, motivating upgrades and a decent scope. A very nice platformer that even made it into our Metroidvania buyers guide. If you like the genre, you should definitely catch up on Steamworld Dig 2.
