The price of bread will rise by about 6% from next Monday and consequently the kilo will be between $460 and $480 in the AMBA region, according to sources from the sector.
“Unfortunately we have no other alternative, given the repeated increases that we have been suffering in energy, fuel and raw material rates,” explained Martín Pinto, president of the Center for Industrial Bakers in the Buenos Aires town of Merlo.
Pinto stated that “we had to make this determination to continue taking care of our industry, our SMEs and the source of work for bakers“.
Bread almost at $500: reasons for the increase
The main increases suffered in recent times correspond to electricity and gas rates, in addition to fuel, as indicated by the representatives of the sector in a press release.
In any case, the kilo of bread is already sold for $500 in large areas of the City of Buenos Aires and in some neighborhoods of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
Bread will increase 6% from Monday and will touch 500 pesos in the AMBA
“We call on the business sectors and the government authorities to stop the increases, because price increases mean restrictions and decreases in consumption and that, in the short and medium term, means closures of bakeries and layoffs of personnel, something we want to avoid,” said the leader of the bakery industry.
According to the statement, the bakery centers that adhere to the measure are those of Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Moreno, General Rodríguez, Marcos Paz, Las Heras, Exaltación de la Cruz, Campana and Zárate, among others.
