Apple will be rolling out the major iPadOS 17 update to its tablets in the next few months. But not all iPads can look forward to the new functions. The bad news is confirmed by a French website, citing a source at Apple.

These Apple iPad models will not get iPadOS 17

Apple’s iPad was launched in 2017 and the 5th generation model is unlikely to get the upcoming iPadOS 17 update, making the iPadOS 16 loud iPhoneSoft is the latest major operating system release. Just a reminder, the tablet launched with iOS 10 and later received major software updates up to iPadOS 16.4 last month.

In addition to the standard iPad tablet, the iPad Pro (9.7 inch) introduced in 2016 is no longer supported with system updates. And that’s despite having a more powerful A9X dual-core processor that offers a higher clock speed compared to the smaller model. If true, it means that Apple will halt future updates for Apple A9 and A9X chipset-based hardware, with the exception of the 2015 iPad Pro, which appears to have been excluded from the iPadOS 16 update.

List of suspected Apple iPad models that will not receive the iPadOS 17 update:

  • Apple iPad 5 (2017)
  • Apple iPad Pro 9.7-inch (2016)

The publication gave no insight into the status of iOS 17, which iPhone models will receive iOS 17. So we can assume that iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X compatibility is still up in the air. List of Apple iPhone models that will not receive the iOS 17 upgrade:

  • Apple iphone 8
  • Apple iPhone 8Plus
  • Apple iPhone X

Apple is gearing up for the WWDC event on June 5th, where these rumors will most likely be confirmed. Along with announcing the next major operating systems for its hardware, the iPhone maker could also unveil its first XR/VR headset called Apple Reality One and Apple Reality Pro. The standalone headset is said to come with high-resolution 4K displays and an external battery. According to the first rumors, the price of the XR glasses is expected to be around 3,000 US dollars.
