The countdown to the return of The Mandalorian has begun. The third season premieres on Disney+ on March 1st and the series has gained a new teaser showing some of the challenges that Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and little Grogu will face on this return to Mandalore. And, as the new commercial suggests, they won’t be the only ones struggling on that journey.

The teaser is only 30 seconds long and brings a compilation of scenes already shown with some unpublished excerpts that give a good dimension of what is to come. The main one shows what appears to be a Mandalorian camp under intense firefight and we have none other than Paz Vizsla (Jon Favreau) coordinating the counterattack.

Because it’s a very short excerpt, it’s hard to understand the context of what’s happening, but there are some relevant points nonetheless. The first of these is the character’s own return. Vizsla had already appeared in the first season of the series and only returned in one episode of The Book of Boba Fett, when he attempts to take Din Djarin’s Darksaber. Thus, we can expect greater prominence for this Mandalorian throughout the new episodes.

In addition, the background of the scene also says a lot about what this third season should be. We already know that the core of Pedro Pascal and Baby Yoda’s hero’s journey will involve this return to the planet Mandalore and exploring the past of its people, which spread across the galaxy after the Empire’s attacks. With that, we should see the Mandalorians no longer as bounty hunters or great soldiers, but refugees – and that’s the impression the teaser gives.

The question concerns who is commanding the attack. It seems obvious to be some remnant of the Empire, but it will hardly be Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), since he has been imprisoned since the end of the second season. This could indicate that we should see a new villain emerging from the Imperial wreckage. Another possibility raised by fans is that we will see new threats emerge on Mandalore, such as pirates and gangs of space marauders.
