There have been reports for years that the company wants to break away from Google. A search engine of its own could not only bring the company a lot of money through advertising, but also greater market power.

Apple earns well from Google

Currently, Apple only receives commission from Google, which amounts to about $8 billion per year. The ability to create an alternative search engine alone would give Apple more leeway in negotiations with Google.

Approach Google step by step?

Apple has also signed former high-ranking Google employees. The group wants to expand the search function in iOS and Co. step by step in order to be able to compete with Google.
