New York.- Billionaire Elon Musk warned Monday about the negative impact that artificial intelligence (AI) could have on humanity and announced his plans to develop an alternative to ChatGPT.

“AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or poorly produced automobiles,” as it has the “potential” to “destroy civilization,” the SpaceX owner and of Tesla in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“What’s happening is they’re training the AI to lie. It’s bad…(they train it to) comment on some things, not comment on other things. But not to say what the data actually requires it to say.” asserted.

Consequently, the tycoon reiterated his proposal to create an alternative to ChatGPT, the popular ‘chatbot’ prototype. “I’m going to start something I call Truth GPT, or a maximum AI that seeks the truth and tries to understand the nature of the universe,” he announced.

“I think this (project) might be the best path to safety, in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to kill humans because we are an interesting part of the universe,” he added.

Concern about the advancement of AI

Eight years ago Musk co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, but left it in early 2018 after losing a power struggle against its current CEO, Sam Altman. Recently, the tycoon has complained that the tool has a political bias and has declared that he advocates AI models that “seek more the truth.”

In late March, Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and other experts signed a letter urging AI labs to “immediately pause” training AI systems more powerful than GPT-4, the new version of ChatGPT, which “exhibits human-level performance in various academic and professional benchmarks.”

“AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose serious risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research and recognized by leading AI labs,” the letter read.
