The dense gray smoke emanating from the fires in the Punta Lara Nature Reserve since last Wednesday afternoon has already reached La Plata and since Thursday morning a penetrating odor has been strongly felt, which put all the residents on alert ; but along with this, many frontiers were surprised by an impressive discovery in the patios and sidewalks of their houses: fragments of ash blown by the wind, in some cases, even several kilometers.

“There are ashes in the sink of my house”assured a resident of Tolosa who shared the images of the water covered with small pieces of burned grasslands in the neighboring city of Ensenada.

Both from the center of the city and from the outskirts, messages began to arrive from the numerous residents affected by the smoke or the fall of ash from the sky. The people of La Plata with pools or materials outside their homes are the ones that have made the greatest echo of the situation.

“We get tired of removing ashes from our patio and it keeps falling, it’s terrible”a neighbor from Villa Castells told this outlet, who also claimed to have gotten up and seen “as if it were all cloudy” outside her house.

Given the panic that was generated among the neighbors and the different requests for a response that reached the Commune, from the official account of Clima La Plata they sent reassurance in this regard. “In sectors of the city the smell of smoke is perceived. It is produced by the fire in the Punta Lara Reserve and the northeast winds drift them towards the city. Firefighters estimate that it will be controlled in the course of the morning”they reported.

“In Tolosa it is unbreathable and ashes are falling in the patio, it must be very close”, expressed a woman from La Plata regarding the intensity of the smell that comes from the Punta Lara Nature Reserve and that affects the entire region. “In the early morning, when it started to rain hard, the smell of smoke was very evident,” added another neighbor.
