Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins are undoubtedly two of the best-known and most popular games in the history of the Assassin’s Creed saga. What do these games have in common? Sharp development and the talent of the Ubisoft Montreal teams and in particular of the creative director Jean Guesdon. The latter has just announced his departure from Ubisoft, thus turning a major page in the studio.

Jean Guesdon sets sail after 17 years of loyal service

This seasoned creative director is a pillar of Ubisoft having joined the company in 2005. He first cut his teeth as a production coordinator then as a game designer on Assassin’s Creed II from 2008. From 2009 in 2012, Guesdon becomes head of content for the entire Assassin’s Creed saga before becoming creative director on Black Flag and Origins from 2012 to 2018.

A more than full CV for this figure from the shadows of the saga of hooded assassins who has just announced his departure via his personal LinkedIn account.

“Hello everyone, 2023 will begin for me with the end of just over 17 wonderful years at Ubisoft Montreal. I cannot express how much I owe to this unique company. So many people met, so many skills acquired and so of projects shipped. And Assassin’s Creed, of course Assassin’s Creed… :-)
Thank you Ubi, very much!!”

Looking more closely at his profile, we can notably see that Jean Guesdon had been working since 2018 on an “undisclosed” project at Ubisoft for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It would be a “voxel-based collaborative game with Minecraft undertones” according to Kotaku, but nothing is certain about the current status of the project.

In any case, this departure remains sad news for Ubisoft, in line with the financial difficulties of the group, the cancellation of three projects and the new delay of Skull and Bones.
