At least 18 dead and 13 injured in a bus accident in Pakistan

The accident occurred on Sunday morning near Pindi Bhattian, where the Islamabad-bound bus struck a van on the side of the Lahore-Islamabad highway, according to police constable Fahad Ahmed. The truck was carrying barrels of fuel, causing flames that engulfed the vehicles.

There were more than 40 passengers on the bus, Ahmed said. The people who were rescued had suffered major burns and several were in critical condition. Other passengers who escaped through the windows suffered minor burns.

The drivers of the two vehicles were killed, police said.

Similar accidents are common on Pakistani highways, where safety standards are often ignored and traffic rules are broken. Other times, tired drivers fall asleep at the wheel.
