At least 18 dead and 22 injured after a bus accident in Nayarit (Mexico)

At least 18 people have died, three of them minors, and another 22 have been injured after a bus left the road and fell down a ravine 40 meters high, in the Mexican state of Nayarit.

At least 42 people were traveling in the vehicle, most of them from India, the Dominican Republic and the African continent, and who were heading to the border with the United States, according to what Protección Ciudadana y Bomberos de Nayarit published on Thursday on their Twitter account. The 42-year-old driver is in custody for his alleged responsibility in the accident and has also needed medical attention after being injured.

At the scene of the accident, more than 100 agents have appeared, including six criminal experts, three land traffic experts, twelve doctors, more than 45 members of the Criminal Investigation Agency and 38 workers from the Prosecutor’s Office.

The current investigations have found that, although the bus was in good condition and with no signs of having previously collided with another vehicle, the tires showed “noticeable wear”.

In fact, the signs indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle during a curve for not respecting the speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour.
