Anyone who uses an Amazon credit card should be careful now: the consumer advice center is warning of a wave of fraud aimed at customers of LBB Bank. Users are asked by e-mail to confirm or re-enter their cell phone number.

But behind this is only a phishing method. This is reported by the consumer center in its current Phishing Radar. Unknown cybercriminals try to get user data in this way.

According to the consumer advocates, there is currently an accumulation of reports from an Amazon LBB campaign: “In the last few days we have received phishing emails with which fraudsters are trying to get the data of the customers of the LBB Amazon credit card. Allegedly one has to compare his mobile phone number in order to be able to guarantee ‘increased security and smooth use’.”

Allegedly for more security

The e-mail then explains that it is necessary to provide the cell phone number because there are currently “increasing security gaps from some cell phone providers”. Whoever clicks on the specified button for entering the data ends up on the fraudster’s website and may only then reveal his data to the fraudsters. The e-mail is otherwise – as is so often the case – excellently adapted to the real e-mails from LBB customer service or from Amazon.

What should one do with such emails?

If phishing is suspected, you can first check the content of the message – and then confidently move the e-mail to the spam folder and delete it. Security experts advise checking the content via Google, for example. In the case of the Amazon LBB email, one can use the web browser itself to type in amazon.de and try to log in and then check if any data is missing or requested. Under no circumstances should you use the links sent in spam and phishing emails.
