For the first time, a US court has Teslas Full-Self-Driving-Mode (FSD) decided. After a lawsuit from the year 2020 a jury in California on Friday concluded that the system did not fail in an accident.

A woman had sued Tesla The Angels. She accused the group of shortcomings The autopilot and the Airbag and demanded payment of more than $3 million. According to her, she was with her Tesla Model S drove into a curb in FSD mode in 2019. This triggered the airbag and caused serious injuries to her face.

Tesla had requested not to be held liable for the accident. The company argued the woman used Autopilot on city streets, despite Tesla’s user manual warning against it.

At a hearing in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, the jury did not award the plaintiff damages. They also determined that the airbag worked and that Tesla had not intentionally failed to provide the woman with facts about the vehicle.

No autonomous driving

Tesla has repeatedly stated that full self-driving does not make vehicles autonomous. Rather, the human driver must be prepared to take over the wheel at any time. At the same time, Tesla is repeatedly criticized for making false promises, for example because a promotional video for autonomous driving was falsified (more on this here). In February, moreover, 360,000 vehicles recalled due to risk of crash (futurezone reported).

Other lawsuits related to the FSD are currently pending against Tesla. Among other things, a lawsuit relating to a fatal accident is being used to determine whether Tesla made false promises about autopilot. Friday’s verdict may have an impact on the outcome, because in the United States, earlier cases and verdicts are sometimes used in the assessment.
