The woman killed in Schöneiche near Berlin (Oder-Spree district in Brandenburg) is an 80-year-old senior. According to the results of the autopsy, the pensioner was the victim of a violent crime, said police spokesman Roland Kamenz on Saturday. The woman died from severe injuries.

The homicide squad will continue its work during the holidays, Kamenz said. For investigative tactical reasons, no further information could be published.

A man discovered the lifeless woman in an outbuilding on her property in Schöneiche on Friday afternoon and alerted the rescue workers.

In the subsequent investigations, there were indications of a person who is said to have been near the crime scene in a car, said Kamenz. As a result, a driver was stopped on the B1 federal road near Vogelsdorf during the search. There, a police officer shot the man and injured his hand.

The injured person could be connected to the crime, the spokesman said. According to the police, two police officers were injured during the operation, and one had to be hospitalized.

There was initially no further information on the severity of the injuries, how they happened and on other details. (dpa)
