Avatar 2 explodes Top Gun Maverick mid-air
China and South Korea continue to dominate the international box office, amassing more than $200 million between them.
With us, the film has just broken a new record by becoming the most viewed film of 2022 with no less than 6.870 million admissions in just 16 days. With such results, Avatar 2 crush it Top Gun Maverick of Tom Cruise, the biggest success of the year, which had recorded 6.676 million tickets in France since May. Avatar 2: The Way of the Water is a real steamroller and after having cleaned up the house by rolling on the Marvel films, it should soon exceed Top Gun Maverick and its $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Cameron’s film now ranks second by doubling Jurassic World: The World After which had recorded just over $1 billion.
Now, to be fully profitable, the film must manage to pass the 2 billion dollar mark. The first opus, after being exploited for several months in the cinema, even benefiting from a re-release in a long version, the film recorded no less than 2.9 billion dollars. We are not there yet, but if it continues its momentum, Avatar 2 could well mark the history of cinema.
