Avatar 2: The waterway is finally launched and crushes all the competition little by little. Even Marvel is no longer up to the monster.

The event and totally surreal film by James Cameron continues to blow up our dark rooms and those around the world. After a discreet start, jostled by the football World Cup, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water has finally managed to get started and is absolutely crushing everything in its path. After having crossed a first symbolic level, the film should very quickly cross a second one, downright historic.

Avatar 2: The Way of Water is Unstoppable

Yes, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water and all the films in the series, which have already been shot, have cost an arm and Cameron must imperatively succeed in accumulating at least 2 billion dollars to bail out the coffers. That’s good since Avatar 2 is on the verge of hitting its first billion dollars in just two weeks, it’s surreal.

As of this writing, the film is currently over $900 million. Receipts which come mainly from the world box office dominated by China (more than 105 million dollars), South Korea and France with its some 55 million dollars. This represents just over 4.5 million admissions, almost as many as Avatar (2009) over the same period.

Enormous receipts which clearly guarantee the billion dollars while there are still several weeks of operation, and we could very well have the right to an extension.
Nevertheless, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water also continues to disappoint. Cameron’s goals were not fully achieved, but it must also be said that the expectations were enormous. On American territory, for example, the film has just crossed the 255 million dollar mark and is struggling to explode (even if the figures here remain impressive). The domestic box office fell short of expectations, but nothing was lost, quite the contrary. If it will not have succeeded in reaching the 150-170 million expected during its first weekend, the feature film should catch up by the end of the third weekend.

Whatever, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water remains a real steamroller and even crushes Marvel films. Black Panther 2 for example, has just passed the 800 million dollar mark after more than a month of operation. Dr Strange 2 meanwhile recorded so far 940 million dollars and should be overtaken shortly. The question now is how far will go Avatar 2. Will he be able to beat the Avengers movies? Or even Top Gun Maverick, record holder of the year? Answer in a few days.

As a reminder, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water should be followed by at least 3 other sequels whose release dates are already set. If all goes well then, Avatar 3 expected to arrive on December 18, 2024, Avatar 4 for December 16, 2026 and Avatar 5 by December 20, 2028. Everything will depend on the final results ofAvatar 2.
